It was 2:47 a.m. Reem woke up to a faint tapping sound on her window. "Who's there?" she whispered, heart racing. There was no wind. No one lived on the other side. She pulled the curtain aside slowly, but when she looked out, she saw nothing. Her room was dark and still. "Maybe it's just my imagination," she thought, and turned back to her cozy bed.
A few seconds later, her phone buzzed loudly, making her jump. A message came from an unknown number. It said, âWhy didnât you let me in? Iâve been standing here for a while.â Reem's eyes widened as she quickly closed the curtain and crawled back under the covers, feeling scared. But shortly after, her phone lit up again. It was a photoâof her⌠standing at the window. Her heart raced faster than before! What could this mean?
Reem took a deep breath and decided she had to be brave. She peeked out from under her blanket and tiptoed to the window once more. This time, she noticed something she hadn't seen beforeâa little shadow on the windowsill. It was tiny and had big, curious eyes. Reem squinted to see better and gasped, "Oh, itâs just a little bird!" It must have been tapping with its tiny beak against the glass.
The bird chirped softly, as if to say hello. Reem unlocked the window and gently opened it, letting a cool breeze in. The little bird hopped inside, fluffed its feathers, and perched quietly on her desk. Reem giggled, feeling silly for being so frightened. "I thought you were something spooky!" she said, watching the bird cock its head to the side, listening intently.
At that moment, her phone buzzed again. Reem picked it up, and to her surprise, it was a message from her friend, Layla, who lived next door. "Did you find the surprise I sent you?" it read. Reem laughed out loud, realizing it was Layla who had texted her all along. "Yes, and itâs the cutest surprise ever!" she replied, relieved and happy to have a new little friend. Reem and the bird watched the moonlight dance in her room, grateful for a mystery that turned into a delightful visit.
